I think there always has to be some credit to the coaching. How much is hard to say.
For Monty, I think his biggest issue was always injuries and inconsistency. He's had neither of those issues this year, so I think it's a combination of good coaching, good off-season training, and maybe the simplest answer of more talent than he was thought to have before!
I don't know of anyone who saw that one (victory) coming. New Jersey basically lost to a hybrid AHL team. A top five pick in the upcoming draft is becoming an impossibility, unfortunately.
AZ, Vancouver, and San Jose are all within 5 points of the Habs. As long as two of those three can pass them, they could still be in line for a top 5 pick.
Just gonna need Hughes to start trading some veterans and for those teams to keep picking up points!
Ah, but who is really "tradable" at this point? I can only go based on what I am reading in the media, but thanks to the Monahan and Edmundson injuries, they are worth far less than was hoped, if they aren't completely untradable at this point. And Dadonov, Drouin, Hoffman, etc., aren't worth much. The only player who seems to be worth much is Anderson, and, well, they can't trade ALL of their veterans (can they?).
